I get tangled in things, things get tangled in me, 2018

The room sized installation “I get tangled in things, things get tangled in me”, (2018) was an attempt at capturing a sense of unease and calm at the same time. Feeling these conflicting emotions around my personal use of digital technologies, I sought a material and even theatrical interpretation of telecommunication infrastructure. The room was completely dark and silent, lined with plastic curtains, and illuminated only by the glowing sculpture. This required about 6 minutes for the viewers eyes to adjust to the light. During this time your eyes slowly revealed the full installation - a sort of overgrown fiber optic cable, with a 'tail' of frayed telecoms cabling, in a room reminiscent of medical institutions, sci-fi movies, and construction sites. It was through the controlled use of light and darkness that I was able to add a time-based experience to three dimensional work.
